Triple Crown winner American Pharoah’s Hens in NBC doc

NEW YORK (AP) — Triple Crown winner American Pharoah’s first crop of foals which have gone to racing professions are the topic of an NBC documentary earlier the next year’s Kentucky Derby. Stream Kentucky Derby free.

He finished his career with a victory in the Breeders’ Cup Classic — NBC’s highest-rated Cup telecast in 20 years and has been retired to stud.

In his very first breeding period, American Pharoah sired 162 hens and he made roughly $32 million in stud fees.

NBC Sports has followed his first crop of foals from farms into the Keeneland Yearling Sale for their fledgling racing professions.

A number of American Pharoah’s hens are scheduled to operate in this weekend’s Breeders’ Cup world championships at Santa Anita, Stream Kentucky Derby free, such as Another Miracle and Four Wheel Drive at the $1 million Juvenile Turf Sprint.

In the auction house’s September yearling sale this season, buyers such as Sheikh Mohammed of Dubai and billionaire businessman Vinnie Viola dropped more than $360 million on 2,855 1-year-old horses (known as”yearlings”) in the hopes they will be the upcoming terrific racehorses.

I spent a day in Keeneland’s September market, and I was blown away by the quantity of money spent on horses which have never been ridden.

The bidding was so delicate that I couldn’t even tell when people were bidding, Stream Kentucky Derby free, and there were particular”bidding spotters” whose whole job is to watch for both bids and alert that the auctioneer.

Each September, rich horse-racing lovers, buyers, and vendors converge on Kentucky’s second largest city, Lexington, called”the horse capital of the world.”

Lexington is surrounded by tens of thousands of horse farms and is home to the world’s largest thoroughbred horse auction home, Keeneland, which also hosts races.  In Keeneland’s September yearling sale, buyers fall countless 1-year-old horses which have not been ridden.  In 2019 specifically, buyers spent over $360 million on 2,855 of those horses (also called”yearlings”) in the September sale.
